Review on Dell S2721QS Ultra Thin DisplayPort Certified Pivot Adjustment, Curved, High Dynamic Range, Tilt Adjustment, HD by Julian Martin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

High quality 4K monitor. A big improvement over FHD or QHD. A few small quibbles

The monitor is very clear (programming all day and needs very clear text). I'm working on Windows and I scale to 125% which helps with menu font size etc but still leaves plenty of room for multiple windows. I tried several scaling values, up to 200%, and the clarity didn't decrease with each one. Impressive. Colors are vibrant and appear fairly accurate. Brightness and contrast are also good. The menu options are decent. Things I'm not a big fan of: The vertical movement of the monitor is very small. I'm a short guy and even at the maximum height I have to support the monitor. So there is the "fault" on the monitor behind it, the loudspeakers must not be installed either; they are so anemic that they are useless. I just disabled them in the menu. Also, the right edge and bottom right corner have a slight drop shadow effect. It's not very pronounced, and if you look at it head-on, you won't see it. But in my peripheral vision, when I look at the center of the monitor, my eyes notice that that area is slightly darker. In practice this is not a problem and I have no intention of returning the monitor because of it. I think after a few days of use it doesn't register at all. If you have darker wallpapers, you'll probably never notice. I doubted if 4k would be excessive for a 27 inch monitor and now I would say no. A little help from Windows scaling and everything is big enough to see easily and still crystal clear. I switched to this monitor from Dell's QHD monitor which was also sharp but this one is far superior in clarity. I have purchased several DisplayLink documents and none of them can communicate with these monitors via HDMI but they can communicate via DisplayPort. When connected to the Dell Dock via HDMI, the monitor comes to life with a 20 second delay. ", which doesn't happen with my other Dell monitors. There's something odd about this monitor and HDMI. If you're looking to dip your toes in 4K water, I'd say this is a decent place to start!

Pros
  • tilt adjustment
Cons
  • The monitor makes an annoying beeping sound when switched off.
