Review on Sony ILME FX3 Full Frame Cinema Camera by Nakaishi Kiyoshi ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not a bad product, but I expected a little more.

9. The battery compartment began to open itself periodically. Fortunately, the battery inside is held by a fuse, so the battery does not fall out at such moments - and thanks for that. Results. I do not regret that I bought it, because I shoot alone without a focus puller and steadicam. But the camera has flaws, so I'm sure that in the future I will change it to something better. For me personally, the main problem is point number 1. For 9 months of use, I could not come to terms with it.

Pros
  • 1. Very good picture. 2. Good intra-matrix stabilization. 3. Compact size and light weight, which, considering the previous points, is impressive. 4. Wonderful autofocus. 5. Full frame. 6. Tenfold rapid, but with a strong aftertaste of bitterness.
Cons
  • 1. Gating. At 4K, it is very noticeable, so I shoot mostly in FullHD. I completely forgot about the formula "shutter frequency at 24 fps is 1/50" - you have to set 1/40 so that the strobe is smaller, but it is still there. And at a frequency of 1/30, everything is already floating, like Blomkamp's in his films, which I don't like. 2. At a frame rate of 240 and 200 fps, the picture is reduced to 1420 x 804 and then upscaled to FullHD. God forbid you set the ISO above 100 in this mode, and if you also shoot on a summer day (as the camera temperature rises, the image quality may deteriorate), the picture, which is already not very beautiful, will become simply disgusting. 3. If you connect an XLR microphone through a special handle that comes with the kit, the built-in microphone will automatically turn off and cannot be used in any way. Therefore, if you want to shoot video with stereo sound recording, take care to immediately buy a stereo XLR microphone. 4. The camera has 2 slots for memory cards, and in the shooting menu you can set which of them the camera will record on. For some reason, the "play" button for me ignores which memory card is selected, and always shows files only from the card from the first slot. Maybe the firmware will fix it. 5. If the camera is turned on, it does not show you this in any way. Because of what I can put it in a bag working. 6. XLR-handle is short, I had to buy an extension cord from Small Rig. 7. Sometimes in the "M" mode, video recording spontaneously turns on, although video recording is not provided at all in this mode. Maybe the firmware will fix it. 8. At ISO above 640, very noticeable noise appears, so I don’t see the point in the declared astronomical digital gain values \u200b\u200b- yes, you can turn it up very much, but it’s of little use if you want to shoot a beautiful video (otherwise, why buy a camera with claim to cinematography?). So the high ISO of this camera is a splurge.
