I bought this raincoat to use on some of my hiking trips. I took it to Washington State and it kept me dry and protected from the wind. It's really light and folds up quite compactly so it fits perfectly in my backpack. I ended up getting a small, my usual size, and it fits great. If you plan to wear several layers of underwear, you should choose one size larger. I can wear a fleece sweater underneath, but it's tight in that area. It's not very warm on its own, so you'll need something to wear in colder climates. In terms of water resistance, I've never been outside in heavy rain, but I've been in a few downpours and it's helped me stay dry. For a cheaper option, this is exactly what I need and would recommend to others.
