Easy to put on but doesn't work

My kids love the boots because they are really easy to put on. However, they have several significant disadvantages. My kids don't need a zipper, they just put their feet in. However, if you have to use a zipper, it gets caught easily and has very flimsy hardware. Boots are also quite bulky. However, my main issue with them is how wide they are at the top. Yes, that makes it easier to put on, but it also means tons of cold, wet snow can get in. I would have liked them a lot more if there was a way to fold down the top so there weren't those huge holes around the legs.

Pros
  • The zipper sticks to the surrounding fabric
Cons
  • Boots do not provide adequate thermal insulation
