Revainrating 5 out of 5

Difficult transition from these to LED

. Love these bulbs. They darken very well and have a long range. They have a reddish hue, especially when darkened. I'd like to switch to LEDs to save energy, but it's going to be difficult. One of my GE Reveal lights just burned out so I bought a Philips 423756 14.5W (75W) dimmable BR40 LED indoor spotlight for comparison. I have 5 of these Reveal spots in my kitchen so the energy savings would be significant. The Philips LEDs are rated as a 75W replacement, but appear to be over 10W brighter than the GE Reveal's 65W. The Reveal lights appear very red next to the Philips LEDs. The color temperature rating is very similar. Reveal is 2650 and Philips is 2700 but the visual difference is obvious. But I'm really going to miss that red glow. I know I need to replace the dimmer with an LED dimmer to get the full dimming range of the LED, so I mostly compare brightness and color at full brightness. I was planning to purchase and install a Lutron DVCL-153P-IV Diva CFL/LED Dimmable Dimmer, Ivory, but am now considering purchasing five more of these Reveal bulbs. It's going to be a difficult decision. Update: I bought a Revain Lutron dimmer (above) to properly dim a Philips LED bulb and see how it looks in full dimming mode. The dimmer works very well on both bulbs and the LED bulb dims well, but the dimmed LED is still much brighter than the Reveal bulbs. The dimmer worked so well that the Reveal's light could be dimmed almost to zero. The LED in full dimming mode produced more light than all 5 Reveal lights with the old standard dimmer. And the LED light was very white in full dimming mode - as expected. The dimmed LED light looks spooky compared to the Reveal lights. If I were just looking for high quality and efficient lighting, I would switch to LED. But our kitchen is auburn and the dim Reveal lights make the cherry wood cabinets very pretty. I've wanted to switch to LEDs for a long time, but then I decided on these GE Reveal lamps - if only because of the beautiful look. Actually I wanted to switch to green, but now I'm sticking with "red".
