Perfectly adjust your waist in inelastic jeans

I was blessed with (?) hips and bum on the larger side, so most jeans, especially the ones that didn't stretch, didn't last for years. When traditional (non-stretch) denim came back in style, it was hard for me to be fashionable without paying extra for a tailor to fit my waist.
