Review on 1200-Piece Perler Beads Biggie Beads Fuse Bead Activity Kit for Kids Crafts - Ultimate Crafting Fun! by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much bigger than usual.

I saw a video about making enamel dots. That fascinated me. I love making jewelry. I have never bought or used fuse beads. I asked a friend if she could give me a 6 so I could do a test before spending dollars on a tub. I didn't know pearls were so small. There are at least 25 different colors. I did my test, looked for the best price, ordered it from Revain. I don't plan on making any shapes, I just want to make lots of dots. There are up to 11,000 pearls that I will never use up in my life! The pearls are melted in the oven. I had to do a lot of tests to find the right temperature with my convection toaster. I even used one of those mini trains that looked like a frying pan. I use it when making marshmallow lollipops so the melted chocolate stays in a glass measuring cup big enough to dip. This works very well. You should place the beads on parchment paper first so they don't stick to the baking sheet/cookie tin. I have found that if the oven temperature is too high, the paper will burn and turn brown. Although the beads melted normally, they stuck to the paper. Now I have glued paper on many beads. They can still be used, but I prefer not to have this problem. You can only use parchment paper once, use a new sheet for each batch. It wasn't mentioned in most of the videos. I watched several videos and only one person said they use Biggie Beads. Doesn't seem like there are too many shops/vendors selling them though. I ordered them from Revain and received them the next day. There are only 8 different colors, a bit disappointing. As you can see from my photo, Biggie Beads are huge compared to the 'normal' ones. There are also mini beads and I can't imagine what size they might be. The tub I ordered looks quite dainty, although it doesn't say so. I will be ordering silicone mats from Revain to melt the beads. That way they all slide off without sticking. Even after the beads were baked and the paper was lightly browned, I still had to take them off. Not as bad as burnt paper. For a convection oven, I think baking at 325 for at least 30 minutes or a little longer has given me the best results. If you let them bake longer, some of them may flatten out, but not by much. Some have not spread/spread at all. It also depends on how thick dots you want. In a regular toaster or oven I would try 325 for 30 minutes. Convection is 25 degrees higher. Sounds like it's going to take a long time to bake. I put them in the oven and do other things, sometimes I forget to melt the beads. By the way, the very first video I saw, the person had an oven temperature of 450, I can't remember how many minutes. It was too hot, the edges of a bead were burned and the paper was burned. Sounds like it's going to take a long time to bake. I put them in the oven and do other things, sometimes I forget to melt the beads.
