I bought this to keep the salt next to the stove while cooking. It's a lot better than pouring it out of the box every time, and it's less wasteful. It also allows you to use just one hand for seasoning while the other can handle food or tools. The bamboo looks great and as far as I can tell the storage cave has been drilled out of a stack of glued bamboo planks giving it a cool look. not much different than a block of meat with end grain. The lid is attached with an easy-to-use hinge. There's a fairly strong magnet that keeps it in place and closed and can help with an accidental spill. Keep in mind that this isn't a particularly large storage box, but it's enough to store salt for a couple of weeks or so, depending on how often you cook. Its size is an advantage as it looks unobtrusive on the counter.
