This fire starter is an excellent addition to my camping gear. I know it’s not amazingly small but you should be able to find a small spot for it your gear. I do want to say that remove part of the black covering on the rod and you will have found that you can get a really nice spark. But don’t remove all the black from the rod just as much as you need to get the sparks going. I think the reason for the black coating on the rod is to protect the rod, stop any rusting or accidentally gettin a spark. I can’t be sure though. I also have to say that the company did reach out to me twice to make sure I was happy with the fire starter and for that I am thankful. To know that there are still good companies that care about what they do and what we think about it. So it was an ease decision for me to leave a review. I hope this helps you to decide if you want to spend a little money and get two great fire starters that will last a good long time instead of super cheap ones that take forever to start a fire
