I was looking for another storage shelf in my 2.5 year old's room that was short enough that it didn't need to be wall mounted. but it will still come in handy when getting toys or books from the baskets on the floor. This device is perfect! It took me and my cousin about 20 minutes to put it together, although my little one ran around in circles trying to jump on us while we spun him. thicker than ClosetMaid 899600 6 Cube Stackable Laminate Organizer White We also have a Closetmaid 6 Cube pad in her room but so many of her books are still tiny cardboard books that don't take up space. All square lockers so they were stacked in the bins inside the lockers and difficult to see/find afterwards. The other books were so big they didn't fit in the maid's block. However, there is a perfect division of space for all of their books on the KidKraft shelf! (I've uploaded a picture so you can see.) I was surprised at how many books fit on the shorter shelves. It's like it was built specifically for children's books! We have only ordered one unit as my daughter is small but I think putting a second or even a third on top will work in the future as it gives a lot of usable space. I won a ton of money by ordering a 'returned' unit for about half the regular price, but I'm so glad I'll consider ordering a second one for full price. That's a good, solid piece.
