This product has a great concept but doesn't work on all levels. Because we rely on the Arlo Q for security reasons, it's imperative that it work properly, and it just doesn't work. The software requires a lot of work. Below is a short list of all the issues with this device. I have a Netgear R7000 router, which is great for streaming Netflix and Revain Prime in HD to multiple rooms for hours. So the issues I'm having with the Arlo Q are directly related to the device, not my connection to WIFI.1 ) I've never seen a 1080p camera with such poor image quality. At more than 6ft it's difficult to make out facial detail and at further distances it simply doesn't capture an HD image despite the claimed 1080p resolution. It comes with a 720p setting by default and you have to manually enable 1080p mode. I wonder why is that? 2) When the subject is moving, the camera takes a picture, but there is so much artifacting in it that facial features are completely unrecognizable. write nothing at all. This is a seemingly random software error that now keeps popping up even after a reboot. The surveillance camera must work properly, otherwise it is useless. 4) When adding a camera via the app, the last step keeps failing even with an excellent WiFi connection. The Arlo Q even has a software prompt if setup is taking too long. Netgear needs to solve this pairing problem. 5) There is a firmware update bug from version 1.7.4_5517 that completely disables your device, essentially turning it into a paperweight. Even if you get it working again after a few factory resets, it's quirky at best. Again, the motion capture is completely random and flawed. The firmware update fails and puts you in a perpetual reboot loop. 6) After fixing the endless firmware reboot loop with multiple resets, it is no longer possible to update the firmware to the latest version and the camera turns off randomly, but the motion detection still sends alerts. <sarcasm>Motion detection without image really makes you feel safe</sarcasm>7) The camera works for a few hours, then freezes with the message "camera starts motion alarm". You have to turn the camera off and on again for it to work again. Is it better in the latest firmware? Do I only have a defective device? Possibly, but I've read other reviews and it's starting to look like poor programming and QA. So why did I go to such great lengths to test all of this? I believe users should know what they are getting with this camera. It's not cheap so I expect it to work properly. It cannot capture detailed images, which is its main feature, it lacks stability, and it was a very disappointing experience.
