K300 Washlet Installation and First Impressions (GET A NEW WATER CONNECTION "THE "!)

Our first experience with this type of seat. After reading the reviews I chose Toto. I considered the C200 but settled on the K300 mainly for the on demand hot water, which also has a significantly lower profile (height in back due to minimal tank). I really wanted to press the remote control buttons on the wall and not on the device itself (seems awkward) which both devices have. I ordered a beige color (similar to our Kohler cookies) which was absurdly 46% more expensive than white at Revain. Supply and demand in action, but annoying. I've read a lot about extremely frustrating plumbing issues with water leaks in the supply "tee" used to connect the flush hose to the supply water and at the bottom of the toilet fill valve (plastic) on several models. The problem is that the original Toto "T-piece" has a threaded metal connection to the toilet flush valve with a flat hard washer. I didn't want to add the 6" adapter that some have used as a solution in the past as I didn't want the added overall length of the water supply to be visible. And I didn't want to experiment with swapping out the flat washer for a better seal, plus too many people have cut the metal fitting on the plastic filler valve and had to replace the valve. Trial and error and trips to the store weren't appealing. at Toto. Phone 888-295-8134 (x1347). She reported that they finally solved the problem with a new plastic tee designed for typical US plastic toilet fill valves. She added that the K300 were the first to ship (previously in 2019) with a new T-shirt. Maybe already a C200? I went at their suggestion to order a K300 after checking the t-shirt and if it came with the wrong t-shirt I could call and they would send a new t-shirt straight away. (I also had to add an outlet and check the length of the cord). I ordered my K300 in October 2019 and it arrived happily with a new t-shirt. See photos below. With that in mind, installation was easy. Check out the tutorial video (for a similar model) on Toto's website as the instructions don't cover installation. An exception to the simple ones, I was confused by step 1 adding the mounting plate. I removed the long rubber grommet (with threaded metal insert) from the mounting screws and tried to insert the grommet into the holes in the Kohler toilet, but they were so tight I couldn't get them out even with lube. If you tap on a single sleeve, it simply sags because it has bulges (which compress). BUT if the screw is partially threaded into the bushing you can (lube helps) drive the screw/bushing down the hole as the threaded insert (inside the rubber bushing below) will pull the bushing into the hole. Then there's the question of how tight to tighten and whether overtightening the rubber cuffs (which compress) underneath won't hurt. I only tightened until it was pretty tight. Not sure if continuing (using the motor drive) can crush the bushing to the point of damage. TOTO - You must explain this in your video or include installation instructions with the device. The manual doesn't give any further instructions other than how to put batteries in the remote control and open the water valve. Once installed (fitting the front to the back so the front is in front of the bowl) hooking up the water couldn't be easier. Simply hand tighten 3 connections, no leaks. 5 minutes. Buy a new t-shirt (!) and avoid wasting time and disappointment! We had to add an outlet as our potty room didn't have one. In our case it was no problem to separate the Romex line from the wall switch box (lights and fans) and add the outlet box with GFCI at the bottom in the same racks. The cable length of the K300 is 48 inches to the tip of the connector. Our outlet is on the right (when facing the toilet) and the cord exits the unit in the back left corner. Thus, the effective cable length (after passing behind the anchorage area) from the right rear corner is 38 inches. You can see our installation in the photos. The remote control is attached to the wall next to you. There is a plastic mounting plate that can be attached using two plastic wall plate mounting anchors (included). I really like that the remote control is easy to remove and reattach with a magnet. It has buttons on both sides. The front has buttons you typically use, while the back has buttons for settings you might not need to adjust often. On the front, you turn on (and off) the wash for the back (or women's front), oscillate if you like, air dry, and can adjust the water pressure and wand sway range. Buttons on the back adjust seat temperature, water temperature, drying air temperature and energy saving functions. After some initial use I believe it will be quite satisfactory. By the way, when you start putting the lid on, you can let go of it and it will gently lower. Some have raised concerns about the strength of the lid. I'm over 200 pounds. and it seemed like sitting on the lid didn't bother him. I've found that it doesn't go back into the tank and stay there when lifted. He stands more upright but sits behind his back. If I try to lean too far back (I'll never be comfortable), the straps (that's how they're designed) will be stressed before they hit the tank. I don't think the hinges would break if pushed all the way back, but that's not a problem since nobody leans back that far. Deodorant is a mystery to me. This is not a replaceable charcoal cartridge like some other Toto models. It is described as "Method: O2 deodorization" and uses airflow plus 5.3W power. I assume the power is for the fan and not some unique ionizing chemistry? The "deodorizing filter" is a flat piece that slides out for monthly brushing. I'm assuming it's just to get rid of dust that might be impeding airflow. I'm curious how it works, if it needs to be replaced regularly (and is possible), etc. I'll call Toto for an explanation an engineer can understand. TOTO: You could explain that here. Overall, first impressions are that this is a pretty good product.
