These are bright but not too bright. They are neither too yellow nor too blue and don't flicker like CFLs. You can be near your lamp without feeling like there is a spotlight in your room, even with an equivalent power of 100W. We have cathedral ceilings and most of the lamps are too dim to illuminate the reading room well enough illuminate. We have pairs of lamps in our living room, bedroom, home office etc and they are great for creating a well lit environment without being too garish. We don't have dimmers on the lights so I don't know if they would work well with a dimmer. They're durable, don't make an audible hiss (cheaper brands tend to make noises that drive me crazy), and they're easy to backorder when we need more. They come in a box which gives the bulbs excellent support and has never been damaged in transit. All round perfect general purpose lamps that seem to last a long time.
