We just hooked it up to our external speakers. As long as it sounds good. The player could be connected, although it was not very intuitive and took time. We then set up the speakers to play music, as this player will not play music itself. A separate wired RCA speaker is required for music playback. We bought Edifer R1280T bookshelf speakers from Revain. After setting up the player and speakers, no music plays through the speakers. We tried connecting an extra cable to our phone and the speakers worked great so we knew the player was the problem. Turns out the turntable needle was in the wrong place since we removed the protective cover. The needle is part of the body of the arm, so we had to push it up and lock it, and VOLA, IT WORKS! MUSIC FOR OUR EARS! Just be careful and have patience. In general, I received this for my friend as a gift. He takes great care in what he plays on his records. He loves this one and the speakers.
