I live in an old house with weird wiring. The bedroom has a lamp that used to be a decoration and I wanted to get rid of the chain and cord but I wanted the lamp to stay. So that I wouldn't have to patch the holes that would remain if I completely removed the bracket, I started looking for a solution. I removed the chain and cable and attached the two washers to the metal ceiling panel upside down with the sensors facing the bedroom door. I didn't know if they would work because they're not in the direct line of the remote, there's about a three inch gap between the shade and the ceiling, but they work! Two lamps provide soft light at full setting and night light at 50% setting. It's not very bright due to the thick glass shade, but I'm glad I have a functional mount instead of a dummy light source. Ideal for turning on in the middle of the night and not waking up the husband. I can't say anything about the battery consumption yet, they haven't been used for a long time and I just installed them. I was so pleased that they worked that I ordered two more to use in the upstairs bedroom in the same way. My ceilings are 8 feet high and the remote and bedside lights are about 12 feet away.
