Review on Zuzu Luxe Onyx Mascara 0.25: Improved SEO-friendly version by Adam Noorzay

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I liked it very much! Then came my antibodies.

The mascara is relatively easy to apply and does not break the lashes. The brush doesn't pick up too much product, but you don't need to apply multiple coats. It dries slowly enough to be able to apply more layers while still separating lashes with minimal clumping. The bristles are short and stiff and tapered at the ends for better use in corners. It smudges a little from squinting after a few minutes in the sun, but not much different than any other mascara. I gave 5 stars because although I had to return it due to an allergy, it seems a good product. Identifying new allergens can be tedious and time consuming, so I hope my experience can be helpful. I recently developed an allergy to a subtle ingredient in mascara and some lip products. Cover Girl, Almay, and Pacifica caused severe eyelid swelling, redness, and itching for several days, then a thin layer of skin started peeling and all my lashes fell out. Some lip products (including my favorite Burt's Bees products) have caused the line around my lips to become red, itchy, slightly watery and cracked, and then the thin layers of skin started to peel off. It wasn't until my mascara failure that I realized that my lips were reacting to the allergen in my lip balm and not just suddenly becoming insatiable. I usually notice the first signs of disaster around 6 hours after the first application, and over the next 24 hours the situation continues to worsen exponentially. After a brief consultation with Dr. Google I decided I'm allergic to beeswax. In less than 2 days, I happily ripped open this little brown bag and smeared Zuzu on it! 24 hours later, I waved the flag of victory as I washed my new beeswax-free mascara off my beautiful face before bed. I woke up in utter devastation. The merciless enemy attacked under cover of darkness. Return to the drawing board. I've put together a fair selection of my beauty products and drawn bubble charts. Many of them. Learned new words. Many of them. And WA-LAH! The sap of the rosin plant gives me contact dermatitis. It's a sensitizer and you may have a sudden reaction. You can even have reactions ONLY on your eyelids. I think it's probably the cellulose gum in this product, which might explain why my naughty little antibodies are taking so long to show up. Maybe it's herbal extracts. It is unlikely to be sorbitol. Thank you for reading! I would be happy about further tips/information :)
