You are tight! I'm fat so they don't get crushed under my weight which is amazing. My son will use them for years. There was a slight smell upon unpacking, but it turned out to be from the box itself, not the carpets. The surface is thick vinyl. The underside of the three large mats is almost non-slip. Rectangular prism and cylinder fully vinyl covered. Washing these is very easy. The overall quality is excellent. I would suggest adding this to your baby registry as it is expensive even on sale. It's worth it.
