I bought this socket to connect the charger in a boat with a center console. I bought it for two reasons. First, the input requires a direct connection to the three wires of the power cord (see image), not to the internal connector. While the power plug makes installation easier, there will be a 6-foot bundle of power cord tied up somewhere at the end, and I wanted to keep the wiring tidy. The second reason I chose this device among the alternatives is that I feel it has a more waterproof cover and I think that is important in a marine environment. All in all a very easy installation and a short clean power cord to the charger. No regret.
