Not effective on its own but good when paired with an e-collar

My labrador is a 55 lb girl, does not have unusually long legs or muzzle but can use any e-collar during the day. She is allergic to fleas and prone to yeast in her ears. She continued to chew on her buttocks and hind legs because her flea treatment had become ineffective (we've since switched places) and caused a fungal infection. Then, of course, she got another one in her ears. She scratched, licked and chewed all the fur on her back, paws and ears even after being treated for every problem. The vet said this is because some dogs obsess over their hairless patches even after they've healed and continue to rant about them and prevent hair growth. We put an e-collar on her to keep her away from us but it's not long enough to keep her off her hind legs and she just bumped with it (yeah, on purpose lol) until it broke enough that she can get her ass back again. Next we tried a comfortable cone. She couldn't break it and get at her ass, although God knows what she tried, it still wasn't enough to knock her off her hind legs. Then we bought an elongated comfortable cone. It kept her off her butt, but after ramming enough times into everything, it became flexible enough to reach her hind legs again. Finally, we used an extra long, comfortable cone that is paired with this collar. The neck collar kept the waffle from sliding down, meaning she could stuff the waffle as much as she wanted, but it was still long enough that she couldn't chew, scratch, and lick. She was unhappy, but after a few weeks she healed and became hairy so she no longer gnawed herself. Its worth it. This collar doesn't do anything on its own, so I would only recommend it in combination with an electronic collar.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Good but not great
