Good price Let's see how long it lasts

Bought for a 2010 Cadillac Escalade after thinking it was a blown HID bulb but it wasn't. First let me say that access to headlight bulbs and ballast is a lot harder than it should be. Check out some YouTube videos for help. After you pull out the headlight, the ballast is attached to the bottom with two screws. Then it turns off from below. GM designed this poorly because if water got into the headlights, water would collect in the electrical connection. We all know that over time water gets into headlights and fogs up behind the lenses. This water sinks to the lowest point by gravity and settles in the electrical connection of the ballast, completing the ballast. Replace the ballast without fixing the problem and it will burn out quickly. I think that's the problem most people are having with this article. You have several options to try and reduce this. First, try sealing the headlight with silicone sealant. You have to route the bead around the headlight where the front and back meet and even then I think you will run into problems. I chose to do so, but also took another precaution. Take dielectric grease and fill in the area where the ballast connects to the bottom of the headlight. At first I thought this might be causing the problem, but it works fine. The lubricant displaces all air and water space and creates a watertight connection. Water can no longer collect at the ballast connection. I'll update the review in a few months so you know if it worked. You don't want to have to replace them again, it's a real pain to replace. However, the dealer wanted about $250 and it took me about 30 minutes.

Pros
  • Consistent results when tested
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
