Review on πŸŽ’ Maximum Comfort and Storage: Kelty Catalyst 46 Liter Backpack by Karen Robinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Suitable for all heights - I love Kelty backpacks!

This well-made backpack is best suited for overnight or weekend camping trips and possibly longer ones as well. It's also good for all-day hikes, especially for those who tend to carry more. The color is more of a muted turquoise, not as bright as the Amazon pictures. We've had good experiences with Kelty backpacks in terms of utility, durability, and comfort, and this backpack is no exception. This backpack fits the vast majority of women as it has a wide torso size range from 14.5 to 18.5 inches. The shoulder straps slide up or down to keep the pack in the right position on your hips. There are 2 coated aluminum strips running the height of the pack behind the shoulder and hip pads to provide enough rigidity to keep the pack from sagging. For small women, the top of the backpack protrudes well over the shoulders. It has enough padding for the back and hips. The main backpack has a top closure with a rain flap. It also has a center side zip for added access to the main pack. There are several small pockets on the back and on the top (on the rain flap), as well as 2 small pockets on the hip belt. There are 2 side mesh pockets that we can use for water bottles, although I didn't see anything special for a water system or wired MP3 player that you would find in a day pack. The backpack is fully adjustable with straps. It can expand or contract to accommodate different load sizes, using straps to keep the center of gravity closer to the body. There are 2 loops on the lower back and several sewn-on straps on the underside for external attachments, as well as a large loop for hanging. The fabric is durable nylon and mesh in the waist belt and center back provides breathability. This should (roughly) fit most women from 5'4" to 5'11" with an average torso-to-height ratio. If you're in the thick of it, you'll be fine with this pack. Otherwise, to ensure a good fit, measure your torso from the bony prominence at the back of your neck (tilt your head forward) to the top of your thighs.
