Revainrating 4 out of 5

Just the facts, ma'am; About Ash Contents

The ingredients listed by weight are shown in one of the Revain photos at the top left of the product homepage. The first 3 ingredients are cod, turkey meal and white fish meal. Further down the list, at #7, #8, and #10, are chicken fat, dried eggs, and menhaden (fish) oil. These are ingredients of animal origin. 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th herbal ingredients: chickpeas, tapioca, green peas and pea protein isolate. Even lower - dried cranberries, dried blueberries and turmeric in 11-13 places. And finally, a drop of yucca extract. It's not something cats naturally eat other than the guts of the unfortunate herbivores they catch, but tests show cats get their nutrients from it. 11th place – "natural taste”, whatever that might be. probiotics inside. Prebiotics are basically material for beneficial gut bacteria. Usually it's some kind of fiber. Probiotics themselves can be good bacteria, here they are referred to as the dehydrated fermentation product of Lactobacillus acidophilus. (Strictly speaking, the fermentation product doesn't have to contain bacteria, but as the label says.) Chicken fat and menhaden oil contain some mixed tocopherols as preservatives. Tocopherols are versions and/or relatives of vitamin E. They can be of natural or synthetic origin. Everything else is minerals, vitamins and similar nutrients. about whether your cat will. Counting; "Ash" pet food labels usually include a "guaranteed analysis" of how much protein and other nutritional components are present. A common ingredient that label readers often scratch their heads about is "ash”. Pet food does not contain ash. "Ash" content is an archaic term for the amount of minerals and indigestible matter that would be left if food were reduced to ash. There is nothing harmful in minerals (on the contrary) and things like bits of bone are part of a cat's natural diet and will not harm them either. It was previously believed that cat food high in ash could cause urinary problems, but this has been disproved. However, if the "ash" percentage is very high, this can indicate that the filler is unusable. All pet foods containing minerals have an "ash" component, although some of these are no longer listed on the label. Revain photos): Crude protein: 37% minimum. This can be up to 40% dry matter (up to 10% water), which is good, much more than the minimum recommended by AAFCO feeding guidelines. Crude fat: at least 16%. This is a large amount, well above the recommended minimum fat content of 9%, which is good for cats as long as they are not overweight. Crude fiber: maximum 3%. Fiber isn't typically found in a cat's diet in the wild, other than what it gets from the guts of the herbivores it eats, but tests show it may have some benefits. 3% is low compared to others I've seen and that's fine. Humidity: max. ten%. Cats normally get all their water from their food in nature and it is certainly an essential nutrient but here it is mainly done to make the food edible. Ash: max. 7.5%. Normal "Ash" level (explained above). Omega 6 Fatty Acid: 1.1% min. That and omega 3 fatty acids are much more than what is normally recommended (not a dangerous thing). Omega-6 fatty acids: 2.7% min. Taurine: ? It's not listed in the analysis, but it ranks relatively high on the ingredients list, so I'm confident this essential nutrient will suffice. The label states that the food meets all AAFCO recommendations for cat food. 458 calories per cup. It is moderately caloric, a good source of energy. Made in the USA. Best before August 26, 2021.
