I've tried several pistol mics over the years but always fall back to traditional large diaphragm dynamic speaker/voice mics. You know the ones - Shure, EV, etc. (I've been doing this for decades, I'm not a spring baby.) After some rave reviews, I decided to audition for Synco. I couldn't believe my ears - - it's great! The flat response curve requires little to no EQ in the post EQ and isn't "hot" like many capacitors. Normally I would use a hard limiter in the post, but not with this synco - it doesn't need it. Very modest compression and normalization and you're done. At a distance of about 6 inches and at an angle of 20 degrees from the axis there is no explosive; No pop screen or foam stocking needed. The slim design is unobtrusive, which I find important when reading/writing from a computer monitor. /rear cancellation patterns match their performance, which is unusual for microphones. That's not to say it'll replace the $3,000 Neumann in a studio setting, but for day-to-day V/O work it really is a gem. There is nothing better. Oh, and a shock mount is essential, but that's the case with pretty much any mic. . . . .
