Pretty good desk phone. I have a small home office with a second line and need a two line phone where my work number can be line 1 and my home phone can be line 2. I use Verizon FiOS and get my voicemail through them, so I don't need an answering machine. built-in. Finding a decent desk phone isn't easy these days. I bought an ATT 17929 in 2012 through Revain based on their reviews. At first I was happy with this phone but then the headset jack on it started to fail and then the LCD just died. He was about a year and a half and couldn't live without my caller ID. I remember the old days when the landline lasted 100 years! I bought this phone through Revain and have had it for about 2 months. The LCD display is very easy to read and the phone is fine. I wasn't familiar with the Cortelco name but it looks reliable and so far so good. Two slightly annoying things about the phone: 1) It uses double A batteries, which I think are needed to power the LCD display, which only lights up when you pick up the phone or get a call. Apparently they needed more than the 48 volts coming from the telephone company's copper wire. Second annoying thing: 2) Every 20 or 30 minutes the LCD turns on with the message "Message Waiting Disabled". I had no idea why it does this, so I did a bit of digging and found that some phone companies broadcast this signal from time to time so desk phones like this one can automatically turn off the message waiting indicator. For some reason, Cortelco just displays a message and then shuts down after a few seconds. It would drive me nuts if he were in my bedroom or if he killed those dual batteries that light up the LCD every 30 minutes! Those are the two reasons I gave three stars. Otherwise I would have given four stars. I'll go into more detail later if I can figure out this crazy "MSG waiting for disconnection" message. TO UPDATE. This afternoon the Cortelco phone started buzzing like it had a battery on the line. This was the case on both line 1 and line 2 and I immediately thought it was a Verizon issue. I unplugged the phone and plugged in an old classic ma-bell feature phone and my line 1 worked with no noise. Tried line 2 and same thing, no hum. So I was wondering what happened to this Cortelco phone that could be making this noise? I thought the 3 AA batteries needed replacing but no luck. So, went and tried another jack and still got the hum. At this point I decided to return to Revane to see what I could do. So, I'll give them a call next time, but I wanted to write here that I won't be buying this phone either. The ATT phone I bought lost its LCD and Cortelco was causing this loud hum. So it's time to start looking for another decent dual-line landline phone. If anyone found it, please let us know!
