Review on Melissa Doug Counting Caterpillar Colorful by Alif Wills

Revainrating 5 out of 5

We have been using it daily for over a year now.

What is there to praise about this deceptively simple toy. My 26 month old plays with it almost every day. It seems like he always had. Of course, there's an expected way to play around with it. It's good for a while. Then he decided to experiment with it. Line them up, count them, yell what number they have is still good, but now it's nostalgic entertainment for him. He knows all the letters and can count to 100. It doesn't matter what color they are. He loves to put them where he wants them and on our playmat! We have a giant artist canvas on our half space wonder mat. We color it in with erasable markers and crayons and change its place about once a month. We just throw it in the laundry. Then pull up a replacement tarpaulin. They're incredibly fun to throw! Obviously they are great to kick. Recently he pulled a room Odessa on me and started using the green caterpillar as a club. It's great to crash into parts of a horseshoe. This morning he had fun lining up the pieces right from their base and using the base to push them. I am sure that he will develop more games in the future. If you're looking for a toy that's long lasting, fun and a great tool to teach your little one with, then this is a fantastic choice. Some molds have chipped a bit around the edges but I can't complain as they go through so much on a daily basis. They are usually played on a gaming mat.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • A shady purchase for the elderly
