If you don't want to drill and screw holes in your windowsill like I did, don't worry, a large piece of Velcro is included that glues the shelf to my windowsill instead. The glue is so aggressive that if you ever try to remove it, it will probably do as much damage as the screws, maybe even more. After considering the permanence of the installation, I ripped the Velcro off my windowsill and eventually repainted it. Next time I used four strips of 3M Command instead of Velcro. I have used the 5 lb strips and as you can see they carry my 16 lb cat with no problem. I believe if I ever need to remove this shelf the command slats can be easily removed without causing any damage. The metal braces can be adjusted in and out to level and support the shelf and are padded with foam where they touch the wall. The fabric on the foam pad attracts cat hair and is difficult to clean. I had to use a roll of duct tape.
