It's grainy and I love it! Don't let the cream's packaging and texture surprise you. Due to the nature of the vitamin C used, it is already stabilized and does not require dark "packaging" to protect the vitamin C from oxidation. The cream is light yellow in color and as soon as you start rubbing it in, it turns from a cream almost into a powder. Due to the form of vitamin C used, these are 20% stronger than other gel or liquid products. It's a high percentage of vitamin C, so use regular vitamins and vitamins if you're new to using vitamin C products. Expect a "tingling sensation," even if you've been using it for a while; tingling is good burning is bad. If after applying you think it might be too much, I recommend taking a soft, dry washcloth and gently wiping the product away rather than washing your face again. However, if it stings in any way, spray with cool water and gently pat your face dry. I had no problem layering another serum and/or moisturizer on top. If you have pigmentation issues this really helps.
