When I broke my ankle I also had ligament damage so as soon as I got out of my hiking boots my physical therapist recommended a figure eight brace. These braces seem to offer support and my therapist has agreed. They are comfortable to wear, can be adjusted well and do not heat up the foot. The only reason I took off a star is because I'm worried about how long they will last. Velcro closes very well, but sometimes the fabric they're attached to swells a bit when undone - not so much that it curls up or creates loose threads, but enough to make you wonder if this is in future could happen. I had them not long ago and haven't noticed any performance degradation. I also expect they will hold up during my particular recovery from the deformity. But if you were planning on wearing it longer, I'm not sure how it will hold up in say a year. However, I would recommend them for ankle sprains.
