is it a bulb or a ballast?

I had issues with these bulbs not working but it turned out that the ballast on the fixture was not working. So I can't be sure about the quality of the bulbs; maybe they were okay. If you are unfortunate enough to need this type of bulb, do yourself a favor and replace the bulb instead. These bulbs dim noticeably over time, are very hard to find and appear to be of lower quality overall than those installed at home (the original lasted 10 years but I never had more than 2 years). new). Symptoms of a failed ballast include a light that doesn't turn on immediately, and then mysteriously turns on ten or fifteen minutes later. Symptoms worsen until eventually the light comes on only occasionally, no matter how many new lightbulbs you buy. Replacing the ballast is prohibitively expensive. Ballast dies faster if the light is switched on and off frequently, so this type of light is terrible for a child's room. I bought a new lamp with Edison fittings and put LEDs in and was very happy - much brighter, much easier to get bulbs, much easier to change bulbs. I am in the process of replacing all other lights of this type so I never have to buy these bulbs again.
