Review on 🐢 Optimal Aging Senior 7+ Formula Dog Food by Purina ONE SmartBlend by Dawn Valdez

Really helped our older dog's mobility

I have bad old Jack Russell Beagle High Energy Mix who loved regular Purina One but was about 9 years old got serious problems with mobility. He slowed down, couldn't jump up on the bed and lost almost complete control of his hind legs at times for about a week. I helped him through the rough patch with painkillers and a heating pad and gave him a ladder to climb up and down on furniture. I've more or less resigned myself to the fact that this is how things should go. Generally I thought that the dog food terms "puppy" and "senior" were primarily marketing terms, but I read about this senior in dog food formulas, there were actually supportive supplements for joint and muscle problems and he had gotten it that bad that I thought it might hurt if I tried? There weren't any immediate results, he didn't eat the bowl and he got better overnight, but over the last six months I've gotten my nasty, boisterous dog back again and again. He's notoriously picky about food, but he likes the taste of it. He gained weight and can jump again without any problems! His energy returned and we had no more debilitating back spasms/spinal compressions that beagles tend to knock on wood. He's nearly 11 now and grayer than ever, but he's doing well enough to remain his old, obnoxious self, and I'm sure the food had a cumulative effect that helped him through that.

Pros
  • Real chicken is the #1 ingredient in our high protein kibble
Cons
  • Something different
