is our humidifier. With a fairly recent Holmes filter, the humidifier leaked very little water. Mineral deposits (when using medium hard water) quickly formed a hard crust around the center of the filter, so the top half was always dry - it just didn't let water pass through the deposit ring. I tried to clean the filter and it fell apart - torn at the seam and the black plastic that was supposed to reinforce it fell off. I also found pieces of plastic in the humidifier. I switched to the BestAir H75 filter and the humidifier lets water through quickly again. It is reinforced with aluminum and performs better than Holmes when first installed. I was willing to pay more for a better filter, but BestAir was slightly cheaper.
