The proposed strength of the solution is too strong!

Pure copper darkens well and very quickly. I was hoping for a dark brown, but the color is more of a dark anthracite. The packaging says 1 ounce of product to 1 liter of water, which is what I did. The effect is quite fast, so quickly put in and remove the copper and wash off. Too long and it forms big black flakes all over. The instructions state that you should add more water in this case. I had to double the amount of water to reduce the reaction time I could handle my rather large item (couldn't soak it). I think the directions should be more conservative with the product, starting with 1/2 oz of chemical per liter of water.
