Review on TREND AIR PRO Airshield Protective Face Shield by Brian Olson

The good news first, this is the best dust control system I've found for men with a beard for under $1600. I have a bushy beard and masks don't suit me. I also wear goggles and they give me full face protection as well as dust protection. (I wear earplugs - the reviews for the trend earmuffs weren't great.) The fan is powerful enough to get me clean air fast enough for the mask not to fog up, and I don't smell sawdust while wearing it. My woodworking tools are hooked up to dust collection systems so they pick up most of the dust. I'm not a woodturner and it's entirely possible that the lathe is producing enough solids to clog the filters - I can't tell. I ordered replacement filters but found that the original filters wash out easily. (These aren't HEPA filters. If you need a HEPA filter and you have a beard, I suggest looking at one of the expensive band filter systems.) I bought a battery charging station and hooked it up to a smart charger, so I don't have it done I have to worry about recharging the battery if I forget and leave it for a week. The batteries last about 3 hours. It's okay, I keep one in the charger and this one plus the one in the mask will last a long time. Bad news: The block is a bit heavy. This doesn't bother me when working with wood, and I don't think the weight is excessive. On the other hand, I once carried the device in the basement under my house and when the upper body was horizontal, the device tended to tilt forward. The main downside was mentioned by others: It's plastic and my headband broke after about 2 years of use. This annoys me and I've started using separate eye and lung protection devices but bottom line I'm ordering a replacement headband because despite the issues it's still the best solution I've found.
