Broke after 14 months, buyers beware

I bought this cable to extend the USB 2.0 cable from my Canon T5i so I can use it for remote shooting connect to my laptop. It worked for about 14 months and now the laptop doesn't recognize the connection. When I connect the camera directly to the laptop, it is recognized and the Canon software works as expected. I expected this product to last longer.
