My request: *Others who have experienced this please leave a comment. I can recommend a fix. I installed StarTech as instructed without updating drivers/software on my Mavericks OS and it works great until after a period of time it loses connection to a daisy chain USB hub. In fact, all USB ports start to freeze. This means that Time Machine and my USB file server will be unmounted (bad way). Here's what I did to test: 1) Moved the wireless keyboard's USB dongle to the front of the StarTech keyboard >. was dead 2) Moved keyboard keys to Mac's native USB port on laptop > keyboard worked 3) Rebooted everything and moved keys back to USB hub attached to StarTech > worked until about 4 hours when all USB devices dropped 4) Both devices' camera and USB keyboard moved to the laptop's onboard USB ports > after a few hours, all StarTech connected USB devices freeze/disconnect/disable 5) Networking and display functions are never disabled 6 ) Audio cuts out when USB is disconnected (Suspects the sound is tied to StarTech's USB mechanism) Conclusion: Something is not stable with StarTech's USB hardware. It could be HEAT or some other combination of factors. Some people have commented that Start's ThunderBolt tech can get pretty hot, and I agree that it does get hot (warm like a flat panel).
