Nice TV but the default settings suck!

At the time of writing this review I have had this TV for several days. I will update this over time. In short, the TV is huge and capable of displaying very vivid colors. It can display a very clean, crisp picture and has many useful features for media streaming etc, but has MANY problems in certain areas. If you're buying this TV, here's what you should know: - If you turn on the backlight at around 45, any bright object against a dark background will create a wide haze or halo. These halos overlap and multiply, turning dark scenes into a cataract blur. High backlight settings also cause bright spots to appear around the edges of the screen, which again is most noticeable against a dark background. The default settings for almost everything on this device are absolute rubbish. TURN ALL OFF. All the AI marketing crap is useless and will do more harm than good to your image. Disable ecofeatures, disable AI support, disable "dynamic" everything and "light" OS. Trust me on that. ALL YOU NEED are basic image quality settings. The only thing you have to activate is "Just Scan", which can be found in the image settings under "Aspect Ratio". This forces the TV to display the full screen without cropping the edges of anything, and hammers all non-UHD channels into doo-doo just like it did from the factory. Do this for all your different inputs. - Scaling HD and SD content is a little rough. TV signals suffer the most, with everything but 4K looking clunky and artificial. The settings here make a HUGE difference, especially the 'Just Scan' option mentioned above. When you have everything set up the way you want, save it in the settings to apply to all profiles so you can use those settings on your computer. other inputs. And yes, you have to carefully and meticulously check every setting for every input. The interface is pretty good, but there are a lot of different submenus that do similar things, so you should click All. Last. Possible. Thing. Serious. Things are hidden and buried deep, which greatly affects how your picture appears and how the TV performs. This is a maze. I still doubt if I can live with this TV for long, but with the right settings the picture is pretty awesome. 4K outdoor shows, home cinema, PC gaming - so far so good. ***Update after several months of ownership: I've downgraded my rating to 3 stars. The picture quality and user interface are excellent and I give LG credit for the obvious effort and thought that went into the user interface. Very good in these aspects. However, the halo or haze effect around everything is a big deal breaker. It's still noticeable after many months and I'm not used to it. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to even repackage this unit and I may not even have all the pieces of the box left - otherwise it would be a return for me. So I live with my mistake for the next 10 years. Spring.
