Review on ๐Ÿƒ Soleus GPS One Advanced Digital Running Watch by Olivia Turner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice basic GPS watch with no frills from a 30 year old runner.

Do you like to run? Yes? Want to know your live pace and final score? Yes?! Well this watch is for you. After reading the reviews that ruined this watch, here is my opinion. It is very good. Drink coffee and read on. I've been running for 30 years and I remember a time when (sigh) we didn't even have GPS! I had to rely on a stopwatch! Yes, I know modern smartwatches are so smart and so expensive. Filled with all kinds of data you can look forward, backward and 7 ways to Sunday. But, you know what? It doesn't make you faster. Serious. We've learned in my medical work that you don't take a test if you don't know what to do with it. The same applies to smartwatch data. Do you really slow down when your heart rate is 85% and you're feeling great? Do you run faster when your heart rate is 84% and you are struggling? No, you don't know. You work at a low rate. You can get all the facts and figures you need, maps, calorie counts, heart rate, level (whatever that means) and steps, but you only need to know how fast you're moving and how fast you've been walking. It is so easy. And for those of you who grew up never seeing a grayscale screen, only colors on an iPhone, take a deep breath. Such was the life of many people. And we survived. Everything is OK. People who leave negative reviews about this watch understand this. 50 dollars! *not $200* Please keep this in mind. In the last 5 years I have used about 20 different smartwatches. I even ran with the first Soleus GPS 1.0 watch in 2011. I've had Samsung, Garmin and Nike, the list goes on and on. Everyone has their own quirks. Believe me. The first version of Soleus took 10-15 real minutes to get a GPS fix. It's a sunny clear day AF. Once I couldn't even get a signal in Boston. BOSTON! Ah, memories of when GPS was new. Good. When you receive the watch, take the time to read the instructions and get used to the button functions. It takes 10 minutes I know but you certainly won't finish your run once you get there. And Rule #1: DO NOT START A GPS SEARCH UNLESS THE SKY IS ONE GROUND ABOVE YOU. So outdoors, not under a canopy or when putting on shoes in the garage. For some reason this messes up the search. But I think most people don't know that. If you searched the GPS in the garage, CANCEL and search again when outside. It should find the GPS in less than 3 minutes if you are in line of sight to the sky. There I freed you from disappointment and devotion. And, hey, you support an American company, right? Soleus is from Texas. So keep our economy going. Much luck. Get some PR. And save some money for the party-goers after the party.

Pros
  • It's great
Cons
  • Some bugs
