Bright and Brittle Poor + Noise Floor

I make my living as a sound engineer. While I don't consider myself an "audiophile," my ears foot the bill. However, I'm pretty damn cheap when it comes to my personal gear. I'm looking for cheap true wireless (comfortable) in-ear headphones to use when I'm in the office or traveling to clients. My opinion is biased towards the following things that matter in my review: Sound Quality, Comfort and Fit, Environmental Isolation, Controls, Battery Life. I'm not a fan of frequency response. I really don't want to sound like a diva saying that. but i try to be honest There is nothing pleasant or gentle about the timbre. They are unnaturally bright and brittle, as if tiring after more than 10 minutes of listening. I've let them burn through for a few battery cycles and tweaked the equalizer on my phone to make them smoother, but what I'm still hearing is just a ton of harmonic distortion in the mids and highs. The noise level is too high, there is a hissing sound at low volume. If the specifications call for low noise and low harmonic distortion, they should be changed. This is literally the predominant feature of these buds. Comfort and fit were ok. I have a "medium" ear and they fit snugly and didn't cause physical fatigue in the (short) time I actually used them. Ambient isolation was ok with included nozzles. There was a flood in my office last week and they have fans running which increase the noise level in a typical room from 30dBA to 50dBA and reduce the noise level by about 10dB. Compliance tips will likely help more. The controls were a bit clunky and the battery life seemed decent during my listens, but I can't verify that based on my sound quality comments above. Everything the same. Either way, it's a deal breaker and they're now targeting a return.
