Review on Mavrik Fairway Wood by Callaway Golf - 2020 Ultimate Performance and Design by Chris Smotherman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Don't like the feel of Callaways? I did not know this either.

I've been playing ping drivers for years and have always said I've never met a Callaway driver that I liked, mostly by feel. I've played (and loved) the Anser, G30 and G400, they all have a very nice feel and sound when you smack them square in the face, which is good and bad. This is good because you get a lot of feedback and you can instantly tell when you've dropped the ball, but bad because you lose ball speed on off-center hits. The sound and feel of the Mavrik is more muted. Rather "blow deaf" than a sharp "blow". So you don't get that many ratings, but after working on Sims in all these clubs, the difference in terms of performance metrics is pretty clear. At my swing speed around 98, my ball speed is typically 140. If my pings miss the center of the face, ball speed drops to 120 seconds. But with Mavrik it stays closer to 140, which means the ball can go a little higher or lower, but I don't lose much distance. Simply put, this means that the Mauritius is longer and straighter. After hitting it MANY times I can feel the difference between mid and off-center hits, enough feedback that I no longer miss that nice "hit" of my pings. I loved this racquet so much I bought my wife a new Mavrik Max Driver plus 4 trees and 4 hybrids to replace all the ping trees/hubris in my bag and we love all of these racquets! Turns out brand loyalty is a bunch of suckers. :)
