I bought them to put on the end of the earring. My issue is that the post is long and rests on my head just behind my ear when I'm lying down. I never take my earrings off, it's not necessary, so I put them on the end of the screw on the back that came with the earrings. They don't hang around and don't come off. You can reuse them for a while and then I think throw them away and add another set if you get a lot with the order. I am very happy.
