This is my first review of Revain. Before I get into that, I want to say that I play a rock band once a week and have been for several years. I felt compelled to write this because I wanted to make sure others have the information I want before making this purchase. I've used many video game guitars over the past few years, starting with Guitar Hero 1 for PS2. When I bought the RB2, I got the guitar bundled with it at Game Stop. It was a wireless rock band guitar with a brown neck and no auto-sync. The fret knobs were noticeably louder than on my friend's dark brown neck RB2 guitar. Within a few months, the yellow button on my guitar became very difficult to press until it stopped playing. I went online and figured out how to fix the problem, but when I turned the button off I found that any fix was only temporary. I came here to find a new better guitar controller. My friend's RB2 guitar works pretty well as long as you don't use the lower/lower fret knobs. I went here and found an RB3 guitar and read some reviews. It appeared to be the same guitar as the RB2, just renamed. The first thing that struck me about this new guitar was that the fret knobs were quiet and worked well. The strum band is typical of RB branded controllers. That's all about the good things. I found the overdrive would unroll with the slightest movement of the guitar. This made some of RB3's in-game challenges quite difficult, as you have to hold the boost until the meter fills up in order to complete some of them. Also, using a wired XBOX 360 headset with this guitar is nearly impossible. I have 3 separate headsets and each had the same issues. Poor sound quality, distorted high-pitched sounds on the other end, and total loss of audio. My headsets work great with standard wired and wireless controllers. Right now the only RB guitar controller I would recommend to anyone is a replica MAD CATZ bass controller for RB2. It has the best waistband buttons yet. It has absolutely no inclination to deploy to disk unless you really intend to use it. It has buttons instead of the typical hit bar, eliminating any possibility of accidentally pressing the XBOX's Start, Return, and Manual buttons. The only downside to this guitar is that the batteries have to be pulled out from time to time as they freeze. To summarize: Pros: Works fairly well as a guitar controller (unlike Overdrive) Quiet, precise fret buttons Cons: Overdrive pops open with the slightest movement Xbox Wired Headset cannot be used with this controller
