Leaks (but looks good!)

At first glance, this shower system is very easy to install. The difficulty arises from the fact that it has to be disassembled and reinstalled many times to determine the leak. The only leak is where the diverter connects to the piping from the wall. A small screen disc must be fitted to this fitting to prevent particles from entering the valve. However, this washer is too small and allows water to run around it. I tightened it with my hand and then tightened it with a crescent wrench as instructed and it leaked. By the way, about instructions. I wish they were a little clearer. When showing where something connects (adapter to pipe, extension to faucet, head to extension, etc.) it shows two washers to install. First, only ask for a leak when you do this. Second, the connectors aren't big enough for two washers. Third, there weren't enough shims included in the kit. A washer on each joint with lots of teflon tape...that came with the kit...but you won't get much. i used mine But back to topic: I put it on and it was dripping. The hair pulled tighter, more leakage. I removed it from the wall and added a standard rubber washer and then a strainer washer. a leak. Slightly tightened, VERY large leak. Sprayed on the other side of the tub. Remove the strainer disc completely leaving only the standard rubber disc and no leaks. The big problem is that if you (like me) have old lines that tend to build up minerals, leaving the washer on can lead to premature valve failure. This gets two stars because I have to go to the hardware store and try to find what I need to make it work. If I can't, I'll look for a refund. Otherwise, this shower system looks good and works perfectly. But why waste water? Also, the reason for the two stars is that this is a recurring problem. I didn't buy this set to complain about it. I wanted this because it is the only square bar system of its kind. All others have round rods and are usually more expensive. I like the square stick aesthetic. I don't like the bleeding customization aesthetic. UPDATE: My hardware store had a universal kitchen sink faucet aerator strainer (85 cents) that I put in with one of the standard rubber washers and there is no leak. I hope the screen is good enough to take the particles I get in this old line. I give it 3 stars because it's a good shower system but I don't have to go to my local hardware store for the right parts no matter the cost.
