The fabric is light and comfortable. It's not very soft, but that doesn't bother me at all. It's 100% cotton. I have very sensitive skin and this fabric doesn't break out. Despite smearing sunscreen on my face, the daily hour-long commute to work in the Midwest still gave me heat rash (red, bumpy, itchy skin). I put on a sunday afternoon hat and it helped my upper face but not my lower face. I started wearing gloves (yes, in the summer) which helped get rid of the rash on my hands. I finally found out I can use this scarf to wrap around my lower face and neck. I can breathe through it. I wear glasses and breathing through the scarf doesn't fog up on my glasses. The fabric is quite loose so it's not difficult to breathe through. Now my rash on the lower part of my face is better. I hope they go away in the future. I am very happy with this purchase.
