Each tool, and the camera is a tool, must perform its tasks. I bought a Sony a7mk2 for artistic video shooting and as an auxiliary camera for reporting. For myself, I realized a long time ago that it is better to shoot a report on a video camera. Everything is adapted for this: tenacious autofocus, convenient zoom, more confident stabilizer, control and more. But in order to get a very contrasting and deep picture, you must either have an expensive video camera, and if there is no budget, then you will have to stop at a camera with a good video recording function. That is why, after much deliberation, I chose Sony. Now from words to practice. First, I tested Sonya at a beauty contest, where, naturally, we filmed the main part on cameras, and additional shooting on a camera with a whale lens 28-70. As expected, autofocus prowled in a dark room, and sometimes it got lost on stage. Luminosity was also lacking. And the floating diaphragm is not very good. Zoom 2.5 is nothing at all. In video cameras, we have a zoom of up to 20 times! Therefore, the question immediately arises of buying a TV set. In addition to the video, I took a couple of dozen photos. Surprised by ISO. Some shots even at 6400 turned out to be very interesting. Yes, there is noise. But it is not annoying, and has some kind of artistic connotation. Then I bought a manual 50mm lens adapted for video shooting with aperture t = 1.5 and tried Sonya in the Kremlin and at MBFW. And here it is revealed! The stabilizer in Sony is not bad, especially with a stabilized lens, but I can’t call it ideal either. Separately, I want to highlight the functional, programmable buttons and wheels. They are very helpful at work. Focus peaking and zebra also makes the job easier! Conclusion. Sony a7 mk2 is not a reportage camera! For thin shooting, it is good. Also, as a 2nd camera in reporting work, it will also come in handy and make its contribution, but as the main one, I would not dare to use it. Although it's all about experience and habit.
