This means you can't use shaving cream

These things make shaving much quicker than shaving cream and then a razor. The only downside I can say is that the bottom wears out long before the top, so throwing it out when there's a pile of soap left on it seems like a waste of time. But I still use them instead of the traditional method. They're also cheaper than buying them in a store.
