Review on Heil Sound PL-2T Overhead Broadcast Boom: Top-Quality Solution for Seamless Audio Broadcasting by Trey Harvey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy and well built with a few minor imperfections

At first glance this outrigger appears to be well built. Mine arrived undamaged. Joints are rigid. Very difficult. The mounting bar wobbles a little in the table clamp, but I like to wrap some tape around it to further reduce the vibration and tighten that point. I intend to use another mounting solution, but for a temporary installation, the table clamp is a temporary solution. It doesn't take up enough desk space (not wide enough) for my needs. One obvious omission concerns the microphone base - it's round and smooth. It's not possible to hold it to tighten the shock absorber or microphone clip to it with tools. It should be cast with a hexagonal barrel, to grab with a wrench. A very strange oversight on their part. Also, there's no documentation so I have no idea if I can adjust the tension on the joints or if the hex wrench will damage the bolt. The website (and accompanying YouTube video on how to set it up) doesn't address this at all. However, when attempting to adjust the hand, the point of attachment to the table begins to deform and twist under the force required to move it. This may just be an oddity for my particular department, but now I have to contact their support team for a simple web search. I assume, that this boom will work for me after some adjustments. For reference, I mount a Samson G-Track Pro USB condenser microphone to a Samson SP04 shock mount. video from YouTube) do not touch this point at all.
