Used for sewing multiple layers of canvas. I also bought a more well known "just in case" brand - they worked just as well at an attractive price. Specifications are a bit vague - they will fit a standard household sewing machine. The back of the needle is flat. I saw another review saying they don't fit, but they fit my old Elna machine perfectly.
