They hold an amazing amount! the size. I've found that the easiest way to do this is to slide your middle finger under the zipper while pulling on the zipper. This prevented the fabric from getting tangled in the zipper. Remember they will shrink (flatten) but not vacuum to reduce size. Since we were so short on space, I took the extra step of putting these cubes in compression bags — clear, zippered plastic bags that you roll up to let the air out. It worked like a charm and we even had a spare spot to bring home some overseas purchases.
