Everyone has their own idea or sense of what seems hard or too soft... so it's all subjective for each person. But maybe it will help someone decide. My back hurts a lot and it hurts a lot. All I need is a very firm mattress with something on top to cushion my joints. it makes a hole because it also causes pain. I don't want anything that creates a hot sleeping area. It was very difficult to find a mattress that met all my needs. So we bought a very hard mattress - as in "hard as a rock" - with plans to put a mattress pad on top. Basically to create a bed that works for me. The first topper was 3 inches and was too soft. This was returned. Then I bought this one. 2 inches is perfect. Not sure if it's the type of foam or the thickness of the foam, but this topper leaves no indentation to roll out (I'm a small person). First topper too. The first said it was memory foam, this one says it's ViscoSoft. Whatever the difference, it's not that hot. But I have two mattress pads on the mattress pad. I'm not sure if two blankets will affect sleeping temperature or not. It seems to be what is needed. I don't wake up in pain or sweat all night. And I feel a lot better when I get up in the morning and move. I don't feel like I'm sleeping on clouds... I wouldn't have expected that from any product. But for the first time in about a year, I feel very comfortable when it's time to buy a new bed. I knew that when an old bed wears out, there will be nothing but trouble. After 1 year, 4 new mattresses, severe physical pain and 2 mattress pads... I finally found the right combination. Hard memory foam mattress and THIS mattress topper I will definitely buy again.
