My wife completely tore her cruciate ligament playing soccer and also sprained her ligament. The clinic that diagnosed it tried to sell her a $375 DonJoy knee brace, which Revain sold for about $180. I told her not to buy it and that we would find something cheaper that didn't sacrifice quality or comfort. Before you know it, I'm 20 tabs deep into knee pads, ACL rupture stories, etc., and I have 30 options and 30 different people telling me different things. I narrowed it down between this (Shock Doctor), Mueller Hg80 and some McDavid braces. The walk to the clinic was long and went well up the thigh and down the calf - the stability it gave was key to my wife. In the end I went with the Shock Doctor because I felt it was really stability oriented and I and more importantly my wife were very happy with the purchase. The orthosis is a certain size but I wouldn't call it particularly bulky, I'd try to upload a few pictures. It runs up the thigh and down the calf and has metal loops that run the length of each side of the knee. My wife has athletic (read: large) calves and thighs, having played sports all her life, so size and good strong straps were a big issue. We measured her knee 2 inches below the center of the knee as shown in the picture and I think it was 14.6 inches, right between large and extra large. Follow the advice in the chart: if you are near the top and bottom of a larger size, just choose the larger size. X-Large ended up being a good choice and worked well for 3 weeks although her swelling had gone down and her knee was approaching a large size. For your own good, ignore the names "X-Large", "Large", etc. and just stick with the sizes. My wife is not a tall person but the X-Large size was right so we went with it It seems strange ordering size XL for a little girl but just listen to the sizes not the tags. The materials are very strong and durable. The straps have never loosened or come loose. Otherwise, it feels solid. Really stabilizes the knee and gives a possibly wobbly knee a sense of extra stability. Comfort is great etc. Overall a very good brace, very good quality at a solid price If like me you go through a million reviews of a million different products I can say this product so far The hall itself is good and if you the right size, I don't think it will let you down.
